A national movement to unlock artificial intelligence for every Barbadian — from the Platinum Coast resorts of Holetown to the rum cellars of Mount Gay, from the boardrooms of Sagicor to the surfers of Bathsheba on the rugged east coast.
AI Barbados exists to make world-class artificial intelligence accessible, ethical, and locally relevant on the Pearl of the Caribbean. We train engineers, advise government, support startups, and partner with Barbados's tourism, financial services, and renewable energy sectors to put AI to work for our people across all 11 parishes — Christ Church, St. Andrew, St. George, St. James, St. John, St. Joseph, St. Lucy, St. Michael, St. Peter, St. Philip, and St. Thomas.
We are powered by StarApple AI, the first Caribbean AI company, founded in 2016 by Adrian Dunkley. Our work spans Barbados — from UWI Cave Hill lecture halls and Barbados Community College classrooms to boardrooms at Sagicor, CIBC FirstCaribbean, Republic Bank Barbados, RBC, and BL&P.
Barbados became a Republic on November 30, 2021, with Dame Sandra Mason as first President and Prime Minister Mia Mottley (Barbados Labour Party / BLP) leading the transition. AI Barbados is part of that next-chapter ambition: a small island, a world-class economy, and a globally relevant voice on technology.
Our work also draws on the heritage that shaped this nation: Bridgetown's founding (1628), the Bussa Rebellion (1816), Emancipation (1838), and Independence on November 30, 1966 under Errol Barrow. The descendants of Bussa, Sarah Ann Gill, Sir Grantley Adams, and the cricket greatness of Sir Garfield Sobers and the 3Ws (Worrell, Weekes, Walcott) deserve AI built with the same care.
Every AI solution starts with Bajans — the workers, the students, the small business owners, the artistes. Technology serves people, not the other way around.
We build and deploy AI that reflects our culture, our industries, and our realities — not Silicon Valley's. Our data, our sovereignty, our voice.
AI must be accountable. We advocate for strong data protection, IP rights for Crop Over creators, and governance frameworks that protect Barbadian citizens.
We are not afraid of ambition, and we are not interested in hype. AI Boss principles mean we deliver outcomes — not slideware.
Adrian Dunkley founded StarApple AI in 2016 — the first AI company in the Caribbean — and has trained thousands of professionals, advised governments, and built AI systems for leading regional institutions. AI Barbados is the extension of that work into the Pearl of the Caribbean.
